Fitment checkpoint

Confirm the legacy interior—not only the registration year.

Tesla groups these generations in separate service manuals. This product is for the earlier Model S and Model X steering-wheel architecture shown in the gallery, not the 2021+ refreshed Model S or Model X.

Model S

2012–2020 generation

Match the original three-spoke center, airbag shape, scroll controls and spoke trim shown in the product photos.

Model X

2015–2020 generation

Model X production begins within the broader product-title period; there is no 2012–2014 Model X application.

Do not order for: 2021+ refreshed Model S or Model X, or a vehicle whose airbag, control layout or spoke structure differs from the product photos. If the build date sits near a changeover—or the steering wheel has previously been replaced—send TESERY the VIN and a clear front photo before ordering.

Official generation references: Tesla publishes separate 2012–2020 Model S and 2015–2020 Model X service manuals.

What changes on the road

The open top changes both the view and the hand path.

Removing the upper arc creates a visually open space above the center module. It also removes a familiar hand position, so parking maneuvers, U-turns and hand-over-hand steering can feel different until the driver adapts.

Sightline

No upper rim across the cluster area

The actual view still depends on seat height, steering-column position and the driver's eye line.

Hand position

Defined side and lower grip zones

There is no continuous upper arc to catch during a large steering input.

Best first step

Review the shape before installing

If you regularly shuffle or cross hands over the top of a round wheel, expect a learning period.

Step 1 — Choose the grip surface

Match the yoke to the cabin and the surface you want to hold.

The selector names the three available grip-surface options. The option label describes the ordered finish; it does not change the vehicle-generation requirement.

White Leather

Bright contrast

A light-colored surface that visually connects with white interior trim. It will show dye transfer and dirt sooner than darker choices.

Black Leather

Low-contrast cabin match

A smooth dark surface that keeps the yoke visually close to the original black center module.

Alcantara

Soft, low-reflection texture

A suede-like dark surface with a visibly softer texture. Clean it with material-appropriate products rather than saturating it.

Step 2 — Side carbon and heating

These two selectors are linked.

The current product has five valid side-finish/heating combinations for each material. Do not expect every possible combination to appear.

Side Carbon Finish Visible result Retain Heating Function
No No carbon-fiber insert on the outer side grip sections. Yes only
Glossy Carbon Fiber Reflective woven carbon-fiber inserts on the outer side grip sections. No or Yes
Matte Carbon Fiber Lower-reflection woven carbon-fiber inserts on the outer side grip sections. No or Yes

Read the complete selected line: for example, “White Leather / No / Yes” means White Leather, no side carbon insert, and the heated configuration. “No” in the middle position does not mean no heating.

What arrives and what transfers

The installed photos include original vehicle parts.

Before disassembly: confirm which original controls, wiring, trim and fasteners must be transferred for the vehicle. The center airbag and control assembly shown in installed photos should not be read as automatic package contents.

Product-specific proof

Use owner photos to judge the actual cabin result.

The gallery shows the yoke installed in both legacy Model S and Model X interiors, including white, black and Alcantara surface choices. The customer-review section below adds product-specific owner photos and comments; use those as appearance and ownership evidence, not as a guarantee of identical results on every vehicle.

Installation decision

Watch the correct vehicle video, then decide whether to DIY.

Many owners install replacement steering wheels themselves. This job still involves the steering-wheel fastener, driver airbag, electrical connectors, controls and component transfer. Watch the relevant reference from beginning to end before taking the vehicle apart.

Model X reference

Independent 2016–2020 Model X installation overview

  • Verify the vehicle and selected configurationMatch the original center layout, material, side carbon finish and heating choice before disassembly.
  • Assess tools and experienceBe confident handling the driver airbag, electrical connectors, steering-wheel fastener and original component transfer.
  • Use the applicable service informationFollow the Tesla procedure for the exact vehicle rather than copying a torque value or connector step from a different model.
  • Test before normal drivingConfirm the wheel is centered and secure; test the horn, controls and heating when selected; check that no airbag warning remains.

Choose professional installation if any airbag, connector, fastening or component-transfer step is unfamiliar. After installation, stop and inspect the work if there is an airbag warning, looseness, unusual noise, off-center steering or any horn, control or heating fault.

Legacy Model S/X yoke FAQ

Does it fit every Model S or Model X through 2020?

It is intended for the 2012–2020 Model S and 2015–2020 Model X generations with the original center airbag, controls and spoke layout shown in the gallery. Production changes and previously replaced parts can create exceptions, so submit the VIN and a front photo when the layout is uncertain.

Does it fit the 2021+ refreshed Model S or Model X?

No. The refreshed 2021+ vehicles use a different steering-wheel, airbag and control architecture.

Why can I not choose “No” heating with “No” side carbon?

That combination is not part of the current 15 sellable variants. “Side Carbon Finish: No” is offered with “Retain Heating Function: Yes” only; glossy and matte side-carbon options offer both heating choices.

Is the original airbag included?

No. The vehicle's original driver airbag must be transferred. Installed photos show the finished vehicle configuration and do not mean the airbag is part of the package.

Can I install the yoke myself?

Many owners do. Watch the Model S or Model X reference above before disassembly, then assess your tools and experience with airbag handling, electrical connections, steering-wheel fastening and component transfer. Use an experienced installer if any step is uncertain.

Is a yoke legal everywhere?

Roadworthiness, inspection and modification rules vary by country and region. Confirm the local requirements that apply to the vehicle; this page does not provide a universal legal approval.

Will it affect the Tesla warranty?

Warranty treatment depends on the region, the vehicle's warranty terms and the cause of a specific fault. TESERY cannot guarantee that an aftermarket modification will never affect coverage. Keep the original parts and consult Tesla or a qualified local advisor when coverage is a concern.

What should I know about customization and returns?

The wheel is configured to the chosen material, side finish and heating function, and personalized requests may be made specifically for one customer. Non-quality returns for customized or installed products are generally restricted. Verify the vehicle and all options before ordering, keep the wheel uninstalled until the configuration is checked, and review the current refund policy.

Confirm the original center layout before choosing the finish.

Then select the grip material, side carbon treatment and valid heating configuration.
