NEMA 6-20 Adapter for Tesla Mobile Connector lets your Tesla Gen 2 or Gen 3 Mobile Connector charge from a 240V NEMA 6-20 outlet, the 20A, 240V outlet found in many garages and workshops. It turns that outlet into Level 2 charging at 16A, about four times faster than a standard 120V plug. Its 16-inch length adds reach.
NEMA 6-20 Adapter for Tesla: Key Specs
| Outlet | NEMA 6-20 (240V, 20A circuit) |
| Charging rate | Up to 16A, about 3.8 kW, roughly 14–15 miles of range per hour on Model 3 / Model Y (Tesla estimate) |
| Works with | Tesla Gen 2 and Gen 3 Mobile Connectors (not Gen 1, made before 2018) |
| Length | 16 in |
| Safety | Integrated thermal sensor, IP54, ETL listed to UL 817 |
How It Works
Attach the adapter to your Mobile Connector and plug it into the 6-20 outlet. The adapter tells the connector which outlet it is on, so the car draws 16A, which is 80% of the 20A circuit, as EV charging rules require. If the plug gets too hot, the thermal sensor tells the car to slow or pause charging.
Who It's For
- Garages and shops that already have a 240V 20A outlet
- Drivers who want Level 2 speed without installing a new circuit
- Overnight top-ups of about 120 miles in 8 hours
Before You Buy
- A 6-20 outlet has a horizontal slot, a T-shaped slot and a round ground; it is not the same as a 120V 5-20
- The circuit should be a dedicated 20A, 240V circuit
- Do not use extension cords or stacked adapters
